Rally Communication – CHAT and RADIO Info Below
Group Chat:
We will use “WhatsApp” for Rally chat communication, exclusively for Rally Participants (Pilots and Co-Pilots). Do not share this link with anyone outside the rally, as it contains confidential information such as routes, locations, and meet-up points. The email with the link was sent to Drivers only. Please share the chat info with your Co-Pilots.
To Join the Group:
1. Download “WhatsApp” from the Apple Store or Google Play Store on your phone.
2. Click the following link or scan the QR code below to join the group: Big Easy Run Whatsapp Chat
3. Go to Settings (bottom right) and add your Name and Car to your profile so others can identify you.
To Share Your Location During the Rally:
If groups get separated, sharing your location helps everyone stay connected.
1. Open WhatsApp and go to the “Jotech Runaway to the Hills” chat.
2. Tap the paperclip icon in the message area at the bottom.
3. Select the “Location” icon.
4. Choose “Share live location.”
5. Select “8 hours.”
6. Optionally add a comment and hit send.
Walkie-Talkies (Radios)
For general communication, we will use FRS walkie-talkies on Channel 7 (462.7125). Most common two-way radios ($10-$40) will work, but “long-range” models perform better. Recommended models include the “Motorola Talkabout T4XX series” and “Uniden SX4XX series.” Expect a range of about ½ to 1 mile with a clear line of sight. You will likely only communicate clearly with one or two cars in front of or behind you.

– FRS/GMRS frequencies: 462 – 467 MHz (UHF band)
– Up to 22 channels with privacy codes
– 2 watts

For those in the front group requiring better performance, consider the following radio options:

External Antenna Recommendations:
An external antenna is highly recommended. We can help install it in about 10 minutes. Installation should be completed before the launch date to save time. The antenna mounts to the trunk area, with the cable running through the back seat to the front.
